Questions and answers about the JUGENDKULTURKARTE
1.1 What was the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
From 1 February – 30 April 2023, a cultural credit worth 50 euros was available to all 18 to 23-year-old Berliners. During this period, the credit could be redeemed for tickets at around 200 Berlin-based cultural venues. From museum and theater visits to literature readings, relaxed movie nights or exciting club nights: The JUGENDKULTURKARTE invited you to discover Berlin’s diverse cultural scene and experience it live on location – regardless of your budget.
The JUGENDKULTURKARTE is an initiative by the Senate Department for Culture and Europe in cooperation with Kulturprojekte Berlin.
1.2 Who got a JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
1. You had to be between 18 and 23 years old during the campaign period (1 February – 30 April 2023), i.e. born between 1 February 1999 and 30 April 2005.
2. You had to be officially registered in Berlin (first or secondary residence) during the campaign period.
1.3 How does the JUGENDKULTURKARTE work?
1. Register online: On the website www.jugendkulturkarte.berlin you could register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE via an online form until 28 February 2023. After filling out the form, you received a personalized pick-up code. Please find more information about the registration process in the FAQ under “2. REGISTRATION”.
2. Pick up: You could then pick up your JUGENDKULTURKARTE in more than 40 libraries in Berlin until 28 February 2023.
In addition to your pick-up code, you needed an official photo ID with the ID number you provided during the registration. If your Berlin address is not indicated on your photo ID or passport, you also needed a proof of residence (registration certificate/Meldebestätigung). 3. Redeem: You could redeem your 50-euro credit directly from 1 February 2023 at 200 cultural venues in Berlin, including theaters, comedy/opera/concert stages, literature houses, museums, exhibition venues, cinemas and clubs until 30 April 2023 at ticket offices or advance ticket sales locations. Online tickets could not be purchased! You were welcome to buy a ticket for someone accompanying you with your JUGENDKULTURKARTE. The JUGENDKULTURKARTE was non-transferable, passing it on to third parties was strictly prohibited. An identity check was carried out at the cultural venues. Therefore, your JUGENDKULTURKARTE was personalized. An overview of all participating cultural venues can be found here. 1.2 Who got a JUGENDKULTURKARTE?

1.3 How does the JUGENDKULTURKARTE work?
1. Register online: On the website www.jugendkulturkarte.berlin you could register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE via an online form until 28 February 2023. After filling out the form, you received a personalized pick-up code. Please find more information about the registration process in the FAQ under “2. REGISTRATION”.
2. Pick up: You could then pick up your JUGENDKULTURKARTE in more than 40 libraries in Berlin until 28 February 2023.
In addition to your pick-up code, you needed an official photo ID with the ID number you provided during the registration. If your Berlin address is not indicated on your photo ID or passport, you also needed a proof of residence (registration certificate/Meldebestätigung). 3. Redeem: You could redeem your 50-euro credit directly from 1 February 2023 at 200 cultural venues in Berlin, including theaters, comedy/opera/concert stages, literature houses, museums, exhibition venues, cinemas and clubs until 30 April 2023 at ticket offices or advance ticket sales locations. Online tickets could not be purchased! You were welcome to buy a ticket for someone accompanying you with your JUGENDKULTURKARTE. The JUGENDKULTURKARTE was non-transferable, passing it on to third parties was strictly prohibited. An identity check was carried out at the cultural venues. 2.1 How can I register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
You could register until 28 February 2023 on the website www.jugendkulturkarte.berlin via an online form. You had to provide the following information: First and last name, date of birth, Berlin registration address, e-mail address and the number of your official photo ID (ID card, passport, permanent residence card/residence title, dgti-supplemental ID (dgti-Ergänzungsausweis, only valid in combination with an official photo ID)). Please note: You must take this document with you when you pick up your JUGENDKULTURKARTE. And: Your data on the form must match the data of your photo ID. Please pay attention to correct spelling.
2.2 When can I register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
You could register online for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE from 1 – 28 February 2023. After 28 February 2023, registration is no longer possible.
2.3 I missed the registration period (1 – 28 Feb. 2023). Can I still register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE after that?
No, a registration after 28 February 2023 is not possible.
2.4 How old do I have to be to register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
You must be between the ages of 18 and 23 at anytime during the campaign period (1 February – 30 April 2023). So, your date of birth must be between 1 February 1999 and 30 April 2005. Even if you are only a day younger or older, unfortunately, you cannot register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE. You could register online for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE from 1 – 28 February 2023. After 28 February 2023, registration is no longer possible.
2.5 I do not have German citizenship, but I am officially registered in Berlin (first or secondary residence). Can I still register for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
Yes, registration does not depend on your nationality. In addition to your ID document (passport or permanent residence card / electronic residence permit (eAT)), you will need your registration certificate “Meldebestätigung” from the “Bürgeramt” if your Berlin address is not indicated on your ID document when picking up your JUGENDKULTURKARTE. You could register online for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE from 1 – 28 February 2023. After 28 February 2023, registration is no longer possible.
2.6 Can I also get the JUGENDKULTURKARTE if my secondary residence is Berlin?
Yes, you must be officially registered with a first or secondary residence (“Erst- oder Zweitwohnsitz”) in Berlin during the campaign period (1 February – 30 April 2023). Please have the relevant proof (“Meldebestätigung”) ready when registering online and picking up your card at the library. You could register online for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE from 1 – 28 February 2023. After 28 February 2023, registration is no longer possible.
2.7 I go to school or university in Berlin, but live in Brandenburg. Am I entitled to the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
No, unfortunately not. You must be registered in Berlin.
2.8 What if I do not have a valid identification document?
Unfortunately, then it is not possible to receive a JUGENDKULTURKARTE.
2.9 Where can I find the number of my ID card or passport?
On a German ID card, the German permanent residence card or residence title, the ID card number (also called document number) is located on the front on the top right corner next to the lettering “Bundesrepublik Deutschland”, “Aufenthaltstitel” or “Aufenthaltserlaubnis”. The number of your passport can usually be found on the laminated card in the upper right corner.
2.10 I have entered my data incorrectly in the registration form. How can I correct it?
You cannot correct your data yourself. Please contact us at [email protected] and briefly describe your case. We will then take care of the correction. To do this, we need a scan or photo of the relevant identification document (ID card, passport, registration certificate (“Meldebescheinigung”) if applicable) as well as a short confirmation that you agree to the change of your personal data. You could register online for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE from 1 – 28 February 2023. After 28 February 2023, registration is no longer possible.
2.11 How do I get my pick-up code?
You could register online on the website www.jugendkulturkarte.berlin until 28 February 2023. The registration period is now over. As soon as the completed registration form was sent, a personalised pick-up code was generated. This was sent to you by e-mail as an attachment in PDF format. You can also view and download your pick-up code in your account.
2.12 Why do I have to create an account when registering?
In your account you can always see where and for what you used your credit and how much balance you have left.
You could register until 28 February 2023 on the website www.jugendkulturkarte.berlin via an online form. You had to provide the following information: First and last name, date of birth, Berlin registration address, e-mail address and the number of your official photo ID (ID card, passport, permanent residence card/residence title, dgti-supplemental ID (dgti-Ergänzungsausweis, only valid in combination with an official photo ID)). You could pick up your JUGENDKULTURKARTE after registering online from 1 February – 28 February 2023 at one of the participating libraries.
3.4 Is the JUGENDKULTURKARTE also available digitally?
No, there is no digital version of the JUGENDKULTURKARTE. You must pick up the physical card.
3.5 What ID documents do I need to pick up my JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
When you pick up your JUGENDKULTURKARTE and when you visit the participating cultural venues, an identity check will be made. The data you entered during your online registration will be compared and validated with your ID data. You will need a valid official photo ID and proof of residence in Berlin.
The following photo IDs are accepted:
– ID card
– Passport
– Permanent residence card / electronic residence permit (eAT) (Daueraufenthaltskarte/elektronischer Aufenthaltstitel eAT)
– dgti-supplemental ID (dgti-Ergänzungsausweis)
If your address in Berlin is not indicated on your photo ID, you will need your registration certificate issued by the Bürgeramt (Meldebstätigung/Meldebescheinigung) that confirms your residence in Berlin. First or secondary residence (Erst- oder Zweitwohnsitz) are both eligible for the JUGENDKULTURKARTE.
Please note that the card will not be handed out without the appropriate proof.
It is not possible to present a birth certificate, driver’s license, student ID, bank or insurance card.
3.6 Can someone else pick up the JUGENDKULTURKARTE for me?
No, the card can only be picked up by you personally. Your collection code is personalized and cannot be transferred. You cannot issue a power of attorney (POA) for the collection.
You could pick up the JUGENDKULTURKARTE until 28 February.
After registering online, you could pick up your JUGENDKULTURKARTE with your personalized pick-up code at one of more than 40 participating libraries in Berlin until 28 February 2023.

4.2 What could I use the credit for?
You could redeem your 50-euro culture credit for the admission price, i.e. tickets. Tickets could only be purchased at the venue’s box/ticket office and/or advance ticket sales locations. Online tickets could not be purchased. The credit couldn’t be used for popcorn, drinks, workshops, program booklets etc.
Some cultural venues offered reduced prices for holders of the JUGENDKULTURKARTE. If you click on the respective location in the overview, you will find this information.
4.3 Until when could I redeem the credit on the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
You can spend your credit on tickets from February 1 up to and including April 30, 2023. A later redemption is not possible. After April 30, 2023, your credit expires and the JUGENDKULTURKARTE is invalid.
4.4 Do I have to return the JUGENDKULTURKARTE at the end of the campaign period?
No, your JUGENDKULTURKARTE is no longer valid after April 30, 2023 and you can dispose of it.
4.5 My JUGENDKULTURKARTE does not work anymore. What should I do?
You could spend your credit on tickets from February 1 up to and including April 30, 2023. After April 30, 2023, your JUGENDKULTURKARTE is invalid and can no longer be used.
4.6 Could I redeem the credit for the purchase of other products, apart from tickets?
No, the JUGENDKULTURKARTE could only be redeemed for tickets at participating cultural venues. No other products sold at the cultural venues (e.g. popcorn, drinks, postcards, playbills, books, etc.) could be purchased with the credit.
4.7 How long is the JUGENDKULTURKARTE valid?
You could redeem your credit within the three-month campaign period from 1 February – 30 April 2023.
4.8 How can I see how much credit I have left?
On the website under “Login” you can view your current balance in your account at any time. To do so, simply log in with your e-mail address and the password you set when you registered. After the campaign period expires, you will still have access to your account and your spent funds.
4.9 CouId give the JUGENDKULTURKARTE to friends or transfer it to other people?
No, your JUGENDKULTURKARTE was for your personal use only. It was non-transferable. Therefore, you were not allowed give, lend or sell the JUGENDKULTURKARTE to someone.
The resale of the JUGENDKULTURKARTE was strictly prohibited. When collecting and redeeming the card on site, an identity check was carried out, which makes the JUGENDKULTURKARTE unusable for others.
In case of unauthorized transfer to third parties, the card was blocked and the credit provided will be completely withdrawn. We reserve the right to demand reimbursement of all costs caused by the violation, as well as to take legal action in addition to the above measures.
4.10 Could I buy tickets for friends with the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
Yes, you could also use the JUGENDKULTURKARTE to buy tickets for accompanying persons and, for example, invite friends or family members to visit the cinema together. However, you had to always be there yourself.
4.11 Can I have the credit paid out?
No, it is not possible to pay out the credit or remaining balance.
4.12 Was it possible to buy tickets with the JUGENDKULTURKARTE on a pro-rata basis if, for example, there is not enough credit left on the card for a ticket?
It depended on the cultural venue whether the pro-rata purchase of tickets is possible.
4.13 Could I buy discounted tickets with the JUGENDKULTURKARTE?
Existing reductions for e.g. pupils, students, trainees, unemployed, social welfare recipients, FSJ workers, refugees or people with disabilities were of course recognized.
4.14 Did the JUGENDKULTURKARTE automatically grant admission to participating clubs?
No, the JUGENDKULTURKARTE did not guarantee admission to a club. The house rules of the clubs still applied. The door personnel of the clubs still decided about the admission. However, the JUGENDKULTURKARTE was then accepted as a means of payment for admission upon entry.
4.14 Should I book tickets in advance for theaters & other venues?
Yes, we recommended that you buy tickets for theater performances in advance at the box/ticket offices.
4.15 How could I redeem the JUGENDKULTURKARTE credit for offers from the ClassicCard app?
The ClassicCard app offers you access to reduced ticket prices from 10 Berlin cultural venues: Berliner Philharmoniker, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin, RIAS Kammerchor Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Rundfunkchor Berlin, Staatsballett Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden. To do this, you could download the ClassicCard app, register and then have the credit transferred to the app at the ticket office.

Existing reductions for e.g. pupils, students, trainees, unemployed, social welfare recipients, FSJ workers, refugees or people with disabilities were of course recognized.
4.14 Did the JUGENDKULTURKARTE automatically grant admission to participating clubs?
No, the JUGENDKULTURKARTE did not guarantee admission to a club. The house rules of the clubs still applied. The door personnel of the clubs still decided about the admission. However, the JUGENDKULTURKARTE was then accepted as a means of payment for admission upon entry.

Yes, we recommended that you buy tickets for theater performances in advance at the box/ticket offices.

The ClassicCard app offers you access to reduced ticket prices from 10 Berlin cultural venues: Berliner Philharmoniker, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Konzerthaus Berlin, RIAS Kammerchor Berlin, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Rundfunkchor Berlin, Staatsballett Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden. To do this, you could download the ClassicCard app, register and then have the credit transferred to the app at the ticket office.
